Visitacion Valley Family Day

17TH ANNUAL VISITACION VALLEY FAMILY DAY PARADE

In 1999 former Mayor Willie Brown declared the second Saturday in March as Ruth Jackson and Family Day, to recognize the work the Jackson family devotes to the children and families in Visitacion Valley.  We work with many agencies to improve the lives of children and families, especially those who have been the victims of and witnesses to violence.  While incidents of violence persist and turf issues still separate community members; Family Day is one of the few events that brings this diverse community together for a joyful event.  Last year’s Family & Community Day event brought over 500 community members and their children to the various events.  In collaboration with other community organizations and city departments, we aim to bring down turf barriers and help the larger San Francisco community see the beauty that exists in Visitacion Valley.

  • Saturday, March 14, 2015

  • This year’s event starts at 9:00 a.m., when the Jackson family serves breakfast for community members;

  • at 11:30 a.m., the Parade begins and

  • at 1:00 p.m., activities in Herz Park begin with a barbecue for the community,  games for children, along with prizes, a car show and entertainment

We extend a special thanks to our partners this year:  The San Francisco Foundation and Mercy Housing, along with all of the community members who made donations, volunteered to work on the parade and events in the park.
